Cowboy Coffee and Convenience Store Graffiti

On a recent roadtrip, I pondered two things:  Cowboy coffee and CSG.

The cowboy coffee was the essential ingredient combined with a huge, colorful variety of music, and then a splash of the alphabet game to keep the long stretch of road tasty.  You may query… “What is COWBOY coffee Joani?”  …and that my friend would be a great question.  Well, I have titled straight, black, sludgey, convenience store coffee: cowboy coffee. Contemplating the long stretch of prairie roads that I traversed at length, my mind had pictures of the long ago cowboys sitting by their campfire drinking not-so-perfect coffee.  Yes, they did.  No, it probably wasn’t Starbucks.  Not to mention they more than likely didn’t have a latte machine in their saddlebags methinks.  So, I think cowboy coffee is a perfect name.  It meets the need found in a long, stretch of grassy roads.

My next ponderings for the long stretch of road came based on the education given by graffiti on the convenience store bathroom stall wall.  You know… there is always something to be studied there.  So, I learned that Kelsey is beautiful, Sammy is a hater, Jill is 2 sweet + 2 b = forgotten… and much, much more.   I counted twenty-one times that somebody LOVED someone FOREVER. The most numerous wall scrawlings always included the word forever.  This made me think about me, and those around me.  We so want as humans something to cling to that is forever… and generally I find we seek it in all the places that actually leave us wanting.  We struggle, and grope, and we hope that some special someone will love us forever and ever and ever.  That’s a long time folks.  That’s eternal.  People, things, and even dreams often leave us hanging… there is only one thing eternal.  There is one love that is always faithful from the beginning of time until the end of time.  That’s forever my friends!  This love is true, never gives up, always bears all our messes, believes all things, and hopes.  This love was demonstrated to us by a sacrificial love, even though we are not faithful and we are always looking for something else to cling to and serve, this love calls our name.  As love calls our name, it promises FOREVER. I have looked in my life for that which is eternal, and forever… and love called my name.  He loves me for eternity, and I am His.

John 3:16-19 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.  This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.”
