We are coming to the close for the month of April! Can you believe how quickly time seems to go by? (Or is it just me since I am spending so many hours at the ballpark…. lol.) Time does seem to go by very quickly…. and it makes me think about how we use one of our most precious resources – time. Are we using our time to love others, and be the hands and feet of Christ to this world around us?
Well, I have a great opportunity for you:
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. I have seen some pretty ribbons around town, and have read FB statuses dedicated to help “raise” awareness. Awareness is good…. but compassion is not just a feeling — it’s an action. Let’s put action to our desire to help. We have a great opportunity here in Jasper County with the Rainbow Room.
About the Rainbow Room:
The Rainbow Room is located in Jasper, Texas and is an emergency resource center available to CPS caseworkers to help them meet the critical needs of abused and neglected children in Jasper, County. They have the opportunity to be in homes and children’s lives that are in great need in this season of their life.
Stocked with all new items, Rainbow Rooms provide:
•school supplies (paper, pens, pencils, backpacks, ect)
•hygiene items (deodorant, shampoo, hairbrush, toothbrush, toothpaste)
–Also, the beautiful (inside and out!) Rainbow Room director Melody Koch said that there is a need for household cleaning supplies. Some ideas are: mops, brooms, All-Purpose Cleaner, dishwashing liquid, & sponges. Please help these families that are attempting to make good choices for their life by providing a way to accomplish their goals. Even one item can bring a sense of relief as one burden is relieved.
These items go directly to children entering foster or relative care and children in their own homes who live below the poverty line. You can make a difference today! You may not have tons of money to give…. but do you have enough money to buy an extra toothbrush for someone who does not have one, but has to face going to high school tomorrow? Are you able to buy an extra package of clean, new underwear for someone who does not have any? What about instead of buying another shirt for yourself the next time you are at the mall, you buy that Aeropostale TShirt for a youth that hasn’t ever had a new shirt?
Just some thoughts…. and an opportunity to “do.”
1 Timothy 6:17-19
Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.
